Snowflake Window Card

Hello everyone!  In celebration of the recent cold weather, I have a fun snowflake window card to share with you today.

This card features the Winter Sparrows stamp set and coordinating dies by Lawn Fawn.  To begin the card, I used several dies from Snowflake Medley (by Papertrey Ink) to create windows for the scene.  I distressed the background with peacock feathers and used the Falling Snow stencil by Simon Says Stamp to create the snowy background with embossing paste.  I just LOVE this stencil!  It is definitely a must have for winter scenes!  I colored the sparrows with copics (W0, W2, W5).  Here's a closer look:

For the sentiment, I white embossed "Merry Christmas" from the Let it Snow stamp set onto a tag from Winter Gifts (Lawn Fawn).

Creative Blog Hop

Hello!  Today I have a special post to share with you.  I was asked by my sweet friend Lizzy from This Haus of Cards to participate in the Creative Blog Hop.

Lizzy is not only a dear friend of mine but also one of my crafting mentors :)   She is very talented and her work is always beautiful and unique. If you haven't seen her Lawn Fawn videos you should check them out!  I love watching her create and always get so inspired to try new techniques!

So a little bit about my world...

I'm married to a wonderful husband of five years and we currently live in Charlottesville Virginia.  We love living in Virginia, especially spending time exploring different trails and vineyards in the area.   I'm in nurse practitioner school and work as a nurse, which equals a lot of time in the hospital!  When I'm not at work or studying, I'm in my craft room :)

What am I working on?  For the past few years, my mother and I get together during the fall and make our christmas cards together.  We usually spend a few days coming with up with several different card designs.  We are starting the process today and I'm so excited because I'm a little obsessed with Christmas (I know it is still early) and I love crafting with my mom.  We always play off of each other's ideas and have so much fun creating together!

How does my work differ from others of its genre?  I feel like with most crafters, I get excited when I learn a new technique.  So for me, I do not feel like my style falls into a particularly genre, I just like playing around with different ideas and materials.  I will say that you can often find furry animals in my designs ;)

Why do I create what I do? Because it is so so much fun!  Ever since I walked in to a local craft store (with Lizzy) and saw a Tim Holtz distressed background made in less than a minute, I was hooked.  But really, crafting allows me to use my creative side and connect with people.  I'm from the South and my mom always taught me the importance of staying connected with friends and family.  There is nothing like sending a sick friend a meal with a personalized tag.  I also really enjoy following other crafters to learn new styles and get inspired, and I hope that my work will inspire others as well.

How does your creating process work?  Usually starts with Pinterest.  Yes I can admit it...I spend hours upon hours on Pinterest...everything is just so cute!  I usually have a color combination or scene in mind and go from there.

Alight, now to the next blogger.

I'm tagging the very inspiring and adorable Elise, from Whimsipost

Elise was one of the first bloggers I followed when I started crafting.  Her creations are so whimsical and fun!  She always comes up with the most witty puns!  I know you will love her cards as much as I do!  Be sure to check out her blog on Monday, October 20th to learn more about her creative process!

Thanks for stopping by and happy crafting!

Lawnscaping Challenge #91

Hello friends!  I hope everyone is having a good week so far!  I have a card to share with you that I made for the current Lawnscaping Challenge.  This challenge is all about using patterned paper in the design.

I live in Virginia and we had a cold front come in over the weekend which made me want to pull out my winter stamps.  Here is my card:

I made two owls from Lawn Fawn's Winter Owl stamp set.  I thought these owls would be so cute cuddling next to a campfire (Love You S'more - Lawn Fawn).  I wanted to add some color and movement to the scene, so I used patterned paper from Snow Day (Lawn Fawn) for the background, scarves, and sentiment tag.

The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn's Snow Day set (which I absolutely LOVE).  I thought the sentiment would go perfectly with the scene and embossed it in white.  I added a few hearts, twine, and glitter to finish the card.

Thanks for stopping by and happy crafting!
